There is leisure time during the day when you can enjoy the beach, relax, swim or play beach sports. Additionally, you will have one day off per week where you can explore the area.
Accommodation is in tents right next to the beach providing you with a breathtaking scenic view to wake up to each morning. Each volunteer has their own private tent and bathroom facilities are shared at the campsite. Thin Camp mattresses are provided, you may want to bring an additional inflatable mattress with you. The facilities will be more basic than you are accustomed to - please travel with an open mind and a willingness to adapt to local conditions.
The campsite has a number of facilities including a mini-market, a self-service restaurant and washing machines that you can use for EUR 5 per load. Hand washing facilities are also available and washing powder and buckets are provided for hand washing. Please be aware that there are not many plug sockets available at the camp so power banks are recommended if you need to charge your phone regularly.
Arrival
Make sure to arrive between 13:00 and 16:00 on the program start date. If you arrive before 13:00, go to the arrivals floor and look for people wearing a navy blue GVI T-shirt holding a white sign with a green GVI logo on it. They will be waiting in front of the arrival gates, either gate A or B. Those arriving early will need to arrange their own accommodation prior to project start.
Departure
At the end of the program, your group will be transferred back to Athens International Airport on Saturday midday. We will be departing at 08:00 and the bus journey back to Athens airport is 4 hours long, so you are recommended not to book a flight earlier than 16:00. You may want to keep plans flexible or allow a day or two after the program end date before arranging onward travel to avoid missing connections.
Food will be cooked as a shared activity by all the participants in the camp site and it is a combination of healthy and varied Mediterranean local products.
