Leaving the bright lights of Las Vegas behind, today will define the words 'road trip' as you cruise down the original Route 66, formerly the main road in the USA for coast to coast road trips. You'll stop off at iconic sights such as the quirky town of Seligman, which sits frozen in time and has tons of shops full of Americana memorabilia. Then it's time for the main event, the mighty Grand Canyon National Park. Nothing you have ever seen before will prepare you for this spectacular sight! The Grand Canyon is a fairy-tale setting for Christmas celebrations. You'll feel the festive cheer as you lay eyes on the 20ft tall ornately decorated Christmas tree at El Tovar Hotel lobby and the roaring fire at Bright Angel Lodge, which you are free to visit. With cool daytime temperatures, the winter season really is one of the best times to visit this desert phenomenon. Hike into the canyon itself or enjoy a bird's-eye view of one of the world's best natural wonders on an optional scenic helicopter flight.
On the road again and off to one of North America's most iconic landscapes, used as the set for countless Western movies, including the recent remake of The Lone Ranger. Immerse yourself in the native culture on an included jeep tour of the Navajo Reservation with a local guide, and find out for yourself why this place is a favourite of movie directors. As you drive down the long road into Monument Valley, you'll see the towering mesas and buttes rise from the red desert. Those who visit in the winter season may be treated to a covering of the white stuff and to see this place with a dusting of snow is one of the best Christmas presents you could ask for!
Today you head to the town of Moab, the gateway to Arches National Park. Utah's undisputed adventure capital guarantees non-stop fun and with two days here you'll have plenty of time to explore this incredible place. Arches National Park has some 2,000 gravity-defying sandstone arches striking a beautiful pose, so take a sunset walk and watch as the sun sets over Delicate Arch. For the action lovers, hire a mountain bike for some adrenaline-pumping cycling along Moab's slick rock path, or head off-road on an optional hummer tour that climbs high into the hills to offer spectacular views of the La Sal mountain range and the valley below.
If you want more awesome rock formations to gawk at then you're definitely in the right place. Famed for its hoodoos, you've arrived in Bryce Canyon National Park. Hoodoos are weird and wonderful tall rock spires shaped by the elements and arranged in rows. For close up views you'll have plenty of time to take advantage of the park's incredible system of trails. Wherever you walk, you will encounter a kaleidoscope of colours and a fantasy land of rock spires that'll leave you searching for your own way to describe this 'indescribable' place. Imagine all of that with a sprinkling of snow, just magical!
Head to Zion National Park, where a desert oasis can be transformed by a blanket of snow. Here the mild winter temperatures are perfect for exploring the canyon without the summer crowds. For the best views of the park, hike to the famous Angels Landing (subject to weather conditions) which offers incredible 360 degree views of the entire park, or try the short walk to Emerald Pools. This national park is a favourite with all who visit and once you've had a chance to explore, we're pretty sure you'll agree!
