Strong wind. Sunshine but cold. Mountains of curious shapes. Light blue and immensely turquoise lakes. Green forests along the U-shaped valleys. And massive, really massive glaciers. Patagonia is not just that, but also a feeling of solitude, untamed nature and rough pioneers. Once you have been to Patagonia, it's impossible to forget it and you discover yourself longing to return.
El Calafate is not only the starting point to explore the glaciers region, but also the gateway to go north to El Chalten or to head south to Torres del Paine and Puerto Natales. If you are thinking of visiting Argentina and Patagonia, you can´t miss El Calafate and Perito Moreno Glacier!
Reisroute

El Calafate & Torres del Paine - Glaciers in Patagonia - 5 Days

Day 1: El Calafate

Arrive in El Calafate and get transferred to your accommodation.

Day 2: Perito Moreno Glacier (Full Day Tour)

Enjoy an early breakfast and get ready to be picked up for a full day tour to Perito Moreno Glacier. People from all over the world come to this remote place in Southern Patagonia to be a witness of the Ice Age. This is one of the few moving glaciers on our planet, and a visit is not only worth it, but a MUST. We start from El Calafate early in the morning to enjoy the landscape, nature, fauna and the wide variety of birds (trying to arrive at the glacier before everyone else). Through the gateways you visit the north face of the Perito Moreno Glacier in different viewpoints and altitudes. The Perito Moreno Glacier has the size of the Buenos Aires city and is between 40 and 50 meters high. Due to the falling angle, it receives more ice than the ice that melts, so it advances, grows and breaks every now and then. Quite a unique thing to witness! We'll take you back to your accommodation around 16-17:00.

Day 3: Torres del Paine (Full Day Tour)

This full day tour to Torres del Paine starts from El Calafate with pick-ups early in the morning at about 06:00. We will reach the border between Argentina and Chile at around 10:00, and go through the border control procedures. We make a stop in the town of Cerro Castillo as well as Lago Sarmiento for you to enjoy the amazing landscape. On arrival at Laguna Amarga, you're required to pay the entrance fee to Torres del Paine National Park (not included in the tour price). From Nordenskjol Lake we are able to admire the imposing sight of Cuernos del Paine. We've also made sure to include a trek around the Salto Grande waterfall. Leaving the national park at 17:00, we still have time for three new stops at beautiful viewpoints where you can appreciate the Paine Range. We'll be arriving in Castillo Hill at 18:00 and El Calafate later in the evening.

Day 4: El Calafate

Breakfast. Spend the day in El Calafate as you like with a lot of optional activities to choose from.

Day 5: El Calafate

Breakfast, check-out and transfer to airport.

Choose between hostel and budget hotel accommodation. The hostel options are a dorm with shared facilities, an ensuite dorm, or a private (single/double) room with ensuite facilities. Please note that towels are not included when staying in the hostel dorm.
