You will fly from Kathmandu to be picked up at the Lhasa airport on Day 1. Visit the Drepung & Sera Monasteries on Day 2. Visit Potala Palace and Jokhang Temple on Day 3. Explore Yamdrok Lake and the Pelkor Chode Monastery on your way to Shigatse on Day 4, visit the home of Panchen Lama, the Tashilhunpo Monastery on Day 5 before your transfer back to Lhasa. You’ll be dropped off at the airport on Day 6 for your flight back to Kathmandu.
Day by Day Itinerary:
Day 1: Flight Kathmandu - Lhasa & Airport Pick-Up (3680m)
Today you will catch your included flight from Kathmandu. Your local Tibetan tour guide and driver will greet you at the airport with a traditional Tibetan white scarf to wish you good luck before transferring you to your accommodation for check-in. Enjoy the rest of the day at your leisure to wander around the city on your own and have some down time as you start to get acclimatized. To avoid altitude sickness, remember to drink lots of water, eat light, and not to shower if you can help it. Overnight in Lhasa.

Day 2: Drepung & Sera Monasteries (B/D)
Today’s first attraction is Drepung Monastery, the world's largest monastery that housed more than 10,000 monks, including the Dalai Lama. After discovering this amazing place, we’ll continue to visit the Sera Monastery, founded in 1419 by Tsongkhapa's disciple Jamchen Choje. A special highlight of the Sera Monastery are Buddhist Scripture debates held in the courtyard 15:00 - 17:00 from Monday to Saturday. Overnight in Lhasa.
Day 3: Lhasa City Tour (B)
This morning your guide will meet you at your accommodation and take you out into the city for a full day tour. First you’ll visit the famous Potala Palace, the cardinal landmark of Tibet and the grand masterpiece of Tibetan architecture. The palace was first built by King Songtsen Gampo in the 7th century and rebuilt later in 17th century by the 5th Dalai Lama. Today, it is a museum and UNESCO world heritage site. In the afternoon, visit the Jokhang Temple old Lhasa city centre, one of the most sacred temples in all Tibet, visited by countless pilgrims over the centuries. Next take a walk around the ancient Barkhor Street in the heart of the city, strolling through Tibet’s proud history as well as modern day Tibetan culture with the crowded central market of Lhasa.
Day 4: Lhasa - Gyantse (4040m) - Shigatse (3840m) / 360km, Approx 6hrs (B)
Today we’ll head out of Lhasa and into the beautiful Tibetan countryside through the Gampala pass (4794m) on the way to Shigatse. Along the way we’ll visit Yamdrok Lake, one of the three largest sacred lakes in Tibet at around 70km in length. The picturesque lake is surrounded by many snow-capped peaks and is fed by numerous small streams, creating an amazingly beautiful atmosphere. Continuing along our route, we will pass by the Karola Glacier and the Pelkor Chode Monastery, the main monastery in Gyantse. After visiting this historic place, we’ll continue to Shigatse for overnight.
Day 5: Shigatse - Lhasa / 300km, Approx 5hrs (B)
This morning we will visit Tashilhunpo Monastery, the home of Panchen Lama, located on a hill at the center of the city. This amazing place was founded by the 1st Dalai Lama in 1447, making it a historically and culturally important monastery in Shigatse. The full name of the monastery in Tibetan means "all fortune and happiness gathered here" or "heap of glory". Returning to Lhasa, you will either drive or take a train, depending on conditions. Overnight in Lhasa.
Day 6: Fight Lhasa to Kathmandu (B)
Today you will be escorted to the airport by your driver and guide to catch your return flight to Kathmandu. Happy trails!
