Day by Day Itinerary:
Day 1: La Paz Airport Drop-off - Flight to Rurrenabaque
Today you will be picked-up from your accommodation to be transferred to La Paz Airport to catch an early flight to Rurrenabaque, where there will be someone waiting for you to take you to your accommodation for check-in. Enjoy the rest of the day at leisure settling in this new climate. Overnight in Rurrenabaque.
Day 2: Boat Trip - Sugarcane Community - Eco-Lodge - Afternoon Walk (B/L/D)
The tour starts at around 09.00, when you will set off on a boat trip along the Beni and Tuichi Rivers for approximately 3 hours until reaching a local community where the main economic activity is producing "miel de caña”, a type of honey made from sugarcane. From here you will continue by boat to the eco-lodge where you will be met and greeted with a refreshing drink made from local fruits. After being shown to your room, have lunch and a chance to rest in the hammocks away from the midday heat, listening to the sounds of the jungle. In the afternoon, take a nature walk along a jungle trail with a guide who will show you a variety of plants used by the local Tacana people. Your guide will briefly explain their medicinal purposes, how locals consume these plants for food and use them for construction. Along this trail there is the chance to see a number of different animals including spider monkeys, howler monkeys, wild pigs and a number of different birds, plus a variety of insects and spiders. After returning to the lodge, enjoy your evening meal as the nighttime sounds of the jungle come alive and the darkness falls.
Day 3: Morning Walk - Workshops - Jungle Camping - Night Walk (B/L/D)
Wake up early at 5am this morning to take another walk along one of the trails near the lodge and experience the sound of the rainforest awakening. Your guide will explain many of the sounds and hopefully you will witness the loud call of a howler monkey. After breakfast at the eco-lodge you can participate in some workshops to learn about the local Tacana way of life. The activities may include how to craft rings and necklaces from natural jungle materials, how to grind traditional rice (tacú) or learn to use a bow and arrow for hunting. After lunch embark on a 2 to 3-hour hike deep in the rainforest where you will see more animals and interesting plants if you’re lucky. Tonight instead of returning to the eco-lodge you will spend the night camping in a tent or under a mosquito net with a rain proof tarp. Dinner will be cooked on an open fire and eaten by candlelight in the jungle after which we will explore the jungle by night in search of nocturnal wildlife. As this tour goes deeper in the jungle you might have the chance to see different animals, like tapirs, snakes, armadillos and if you are lucky you might hear the roaring of pumas or jaguars.
Day 4: Farallon of the Macaws - Self Made Raft Sailing - Transfer to Rurrenabaque - Flight to La Paz (B/L)
After breakfast you will visit the Farallon of the Macaws, place for nesting and feeding of guacamayos and parrots. It is also one of the best places to watch and enjoy the beautiful view of the Amazon rainforest. Also you will have the opportunity to build a ‘’callapo’’, raft of the Amazonian tribes, and sail back in it to the lodge, where you’ll have lunch. We will also have a boat for security, for backpacks and for those who do not wish to sail on the self made raft. After the tour, gather your belongings for your return boat ride to Rurrenabaque to be transferred to the airport, for your return flight to La Paz, where this amazing adventure will come to an end.
Important: Since flights can be unreliable returning to La Paz, we recommend planning to leave La Paz at least two days after the trip ends in case flights from Rurrenabaque are delayed 24 hours.
