Day by Day Itinerary:
Day 1: Airport Pick-up
Today you will be picked-up at the Guadalajara airport upon arrival and transferred to your accommodation. Get settled in and then enjoy free time for the rest of the day to explore the city on your own. Have dinner on your own and if you are in a party mood, go out tonight to a popular club or local bar. Overnight in Guadalajara.
Day 2: Tequila Day Tour
Take a day trip today to the town of Tequila where you can take a tour of a tequila factory and learn how this traditional Mexican liquor is made. You’ll be picked up at your hotel in Guadalajara in the morning and driven by minivan into the Jaliscan countryside. During the 1-hour drive to the city of Tequila, stop to admire mountain vistas and the fields of agave azul (blue agave) - the succulent plant used to make tequila, the Mexican national drink. Declared a UNESCO World Heritage site, these blue-green patches of agave plants blend beautifully with the earth tones in the natural landscape.
Visit the typical and picturesque town of Tequila with a stop for lunch (own expense) before heading to the nearby town of Amatitan, where Casa Herradura is located. On a small-group tour of the world-famous distillery and its hacienda, learn about past and present-day tequila production techniques. Discover tequila’s indigenous origins and the Spanish who distilled the beverage into the tequila known today, and marvel at the craftsmanship that Casa Herradura has bottled since 1870. You'll witness the modern fermentation and distillation process of blue Weber agave before a tasting of several different types of tequila aged in oak casks. A master tequilier will guide you through the different aromas and flavors. After touring the facility and tasting this national liquor, you will undoubtedly feel like a tequila connoisseur! Your guide will take you back to Guadalajara with drop-off at your hotel in the early evening. Overnight in Guadalajara.
Day 3: Tlaquepaque Day Tour
Today you will be picked-up from your accommodation to be transferred to visit the magnificent architecture of Guadalajara and Tlaquepaque beautiful handicrafts on a 5-hour sightseeing tour. You will stop at major sites in the historic center of Guadalajara, full of colonial buildings as Plaza de Armas, where the Cathedral twin towers of Guadalajara are located, the neoclassical Degollado Theater, Plaza de la Rotonda, and the enormous Mercado Libertad, also known as San Juan de Dios Market, one of the biggest traditional markets of Mexico. You will see local vendors selling everything from products, traditional sweets and flowers, carpets, clothing and leather goods in more than 2,600 stalls.
Continue the trip travelling by air-conditioned minivan to nearby Tlaquepaque, a small colonial town just 4 miles (7 kilometers) southeast of downtown Guadalajara. Stroll through the narrow cobbled streets and admire the beautiful architecture, or buy a traditional meal and tasty drink for lunch (on your own). You will also have the opportunity to visit Tlaquepaque craft markets, where you can find Mexican wood carvings, pottery, ceramics and leather goods. After the tour you will be dropped-off back at your accommodation. Overnight in Guadalajara.
Day 4: Lago de Chapala Day Tour
Today you will be transferred to the nearby Lago de Chapala located about an hour-drive from Guadalajara. Lake Chapala is famous for its amazing weather all year round and an enchanting landscape. Just 10 minutes from Chapala, a huge tree welcomes visitors to the town of Ajijic, famous for its many horse riders and moderate summer temperatures. Enjoy the view as you walk the narrow cobblestone streets full of charming restaurants, bars and art galleries. After the tour you will be dropped-off at your accommodation. Overnight in Guadalajara.
Day 5: Airport Drop-off
Today your trip will come to an end as you check out of your hotel and are transferred back to the Guadalajara airport in time to take your return flight. Your trip will come to an end with great memories of unforgettable experiences.
