The coastal town of Seward is known for its spectacular mountain and bay scenery, as well as its superb location close to Kenai Fjords National Park, known as the land where mountains, ice and ocean meet. The perfect place for an incredible included wildlife cruise! Discover icy peaks and keep a look out for Orcas, porpoises and sea otters. You might just hear glaciers drop huge chunks of ice into the sea, with an ear-splitting crack! On your second day here, enjoy a full day on the trails, hiking though the great Alaskan wilderness.
Make the journey north to stunning Denali National Park, stopping along the way in Talkeetna, where you can tuck into the local delicacy of reindeer sausage. In Denali, it's time to feel like a true wilderness explorer, as the rangers encourage you to break away from the beaten track and find your own route through this magical national park. Make the most of your two day scenic bus pass to really get out and explore. Being this far north in the 'land of the midnight sun', you'll be glad of all the overtime hours that daylight is putting in, so make the most of it. The park has abundant wildlife so keep a watch out for the 'Big Five': Caribou, wolves, Dall sheep, moose and Grizzly Bears. You can also watch a dog sled demonstration here. Hike in the shadows of Mount Denali; standing at over 6,190m (20,320 ft.), North America's highest mountain dominates every view. For something really special, take a scenic flight over this incredible mountain and enjoy views that will blow you away.
Travel along the Denali Highway with incredible scenery on your way to the Maclaren Lodge in the Alaskan Range. Take in the lake-splattered green plains as they stretch to distant mountains, then get active with some optional canoeing.
In case you hadn't noticed yet, the Alaskan scenery just keeps getting better! Your eyes (and camera lens) will be seriously spoilt as you take the scenic route along the Alaska Mountain Range, all the way to Wrangell-St Elias National Park. This one's a pretty big deal - the largest national park in the United States, and six times bigger than Yellowstone! Nine of the country's highest 16 peaks are in the park, plus some of the largest glaciers in North America. You'll find superb untended hiking trails, unpaved roads and never-ending views. It's safe to say the next couple of days are going to be epic! As the Wrangell Mountains cast their lengthy shadow, ready yourself for some top-notch glacier action. How about a guided hike on the Root Glacier? For a more vertical challenge, grab an axe and try ice climbing on the glacier cliff.
Before you know it, it's time to leave the Alaskan wilderness behind you and head back to civilisation. But don't be too sad, Anchorage has heaps of local walking trails, shops aplenty and a great bar and restaurant scene, so we suggest staying a few extra days after the tour to explore. This tour ends at our gateway hotel at approximately 17:00 hrs. We can book you post-tour accommodation at our gateway hotel if required. If you are planning to fly tonight, please do not book a flight that departs before 21:00 hrs.
